Guidelines for Study

HP 101 is designed as a self-study course. Self-study relies on your ability and willingness to direct your own learning. To put it another way, you will need to take responsibility for your own learning—to identify the areas in which you know you need to learn more, to find the resources you need, to establish a time and space for learning and to evaluate your own progress as you learn. Lots of people have learned successfully this way, however, so this section shares some tips based on personal anecdotes and research about self-study.

Regular Time and Space

Self-directed learning has the benefit of flexibility—you can work at a time convenient to you and at your own pace. But having the flexibility can also mean that it is easy to put off. For a successful self-directed learning experience, you should try to set aside a regular time to work on the modules and find a space which is conducive for self-study. You also need to plan to set aside the time to do the readings and critical reflection.
